Elizabeth Bacon Pursues Client Innocent Finding

After being appointed by the Federal Court to represent an Illinois prisoner and successfully obtaining proper medical care for him that was previously denied, Elizabeth Bacon learned that the prisoner, already serving more than 22 years of a 45-year sentence for murder, was innocent and proceeded to seek a reversal of the guilty verdict and a finding of innocence. In pursuing her client’s finding of innocence, Elizabeth uncovered an ongoing scandal and corruption in the Cook County States Attorney’s office and Chicago Police Department. CBS Chicago recently documented some of her efforts in its expose of this injustice. See video. On learning of Elizabeth’s findings relating to the wrongful murder conviction of her pro bono client, the Chicago Tribune published its investigation relating to Elizabeth’s client as well as other potentially wrongfully convicted persons, quoting Elizabeth extensively. As the United States District Court recognized when it presented Elizabeth with its 2021 Award for Excellence, Elizabeth epitomizes the best virtues and dedication of our profession, selflessly representing those underserved in our civil and criminal justice system with the same zeal, competence and care she provides to all her clients. We could not be more proud of her and it is our privilege to practice with her.
